About the Business
Our Community and Aboriginal Partnerships Division helps to build community safety and wellbeing by providing support and services to children, young people and families, including those involved with the youth justice system, remote Aboriginal communities, people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and people with complex and exceptional needs. The division also leads the department's Closing the Gap efforts.
Role Details
The Home Detention Officer is a role within the Kurlana Tapa Youth Justice Centre and is accountable to the
Operations Coordinator, Home Detention, for:
• Providing quality supervision of children and young people whilst operating Departmental Electronic
Monitoring Systems to monitor their movements and ensure compliance with Mandates and Bail
Conditions.
• Drug testing children and young people as directed by a Court order.
• Conducting property assessments to determine suitability of premises for electronic monitoring of
identified children and young people.
• Consulting and liaising with Case Managers in relation to absences, planning and scheduling of
arrangements and urine screening of allocated children and young people.
Key outcomes and accountabilities:
1. Provide supervision of all children and young people allocated to the States’ Home Detention Program in
accordance with court orders.
2. Work collaboratively with Case Managers to support and assist children and young people to fulfil the
requirements of individual case plans and conditions of Mandates.
3. Manage the effective operation and maintenance of electronic monitoring equipment and software.
4. Monitor, authorise and record movement requests by children and young people as authorised through
court orders and individual case plans.
5. Work effectively within Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse frameworks to address the needs
of children and young people.
6. Communicate effectively with children and young people, their families and relevant stakeholders.
7. Participate in program and strategy development for children and young people.
Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager
and/or the Department. The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing
requirements of the role.
Special Conditions
National Police Check required.
Employment-related Screening Check required.
Some out of hours work may be required.
Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C).
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation is desirable.

Screening Checks
If you are new to the department and are invited to an interview, you will be required to produce a National Police Check,
which has been issued within six months of your application for the role. National Police Checks can be applied for via the
South Australia Police
or through an Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission accredited body.
If the role you are applying for also requires an Employment-related Screening Check, you will be required to undergo such assessment as is advised by DHS,
including periodic assessment during your employment.
